Button Up

Upholstery buttons are made by clamping the fabric between two metal ‘moulds’ or ‘shells’ by using a heavy duty buttoning machine, such as the Osborne W1 Buttoning Machine. Different dies and button moulds are required for different size buttons.

Unlike most regular buttons, the shanks (the loop at the back of the button) must be super strong so they can withstand a lot of tension when pulled deep into the cushioning.
